DAVAO CITY – Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) emphasized on Friday that there is a need to focus on enhancing and strengthening further its regional interlinkages and logistics.
Speaking during the virtual 26th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting of the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc., MinDA Deputy Executive Director ASec. Romeo M. Montenegro, said they have to look at strengthening the connectivity given the constraints faced as a result of the pandemic and the limitations of leveraging the availability of technology.
“For us to be able to continue to do business, to continue pursuing engagements and activities be it online and allowing many of our farmers to be connected to the market, via an online platform and pursuing activities that will further value many of our agriculture commodities, especially here in Mindanao,” he said.
Montenegro underscored that focusing more on the expansion of industries is also important especially on manufacturing since it is the backbone in terms of the economic growth in Mindanao.
Apart from that, he said among the challenges faced in Mindanao is the decline in the performance of the Agri sector due to the behavior of the weather.
“One thing that we have always been pointing out in terms of overall economic performance nationally and Mindanao is the performance of our agriculture sector,” he said.
Montenegro however clarified that Mindanao continues to demonstrate viability in terms of agriculture performance.
Montenegro is the keynote speaker of the said event as he discussed Mindanao development updates and prospects for post-pandemic recovery.
