To help our farmers and fishermen recover from the adverse effects of the COVID 19 Pandemic, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) has opened a "Buy & Sell Portal" to facilitate the marketing and trading of their products.
https://www.mindatienda.com is the link between producers and buyers established by MinDA which will help determine what products are needed in other parts of the country.
Farmers and fishermen's groups are encouraged to access this site where they could send a message that they have items to sell.
They could also indicate the scheduled harvest of fruits like Durian, stating the expected harvest date and volume of production.
MinDA Tienda will post this information and consolidate the orders, including the facilitation of shipment even to places outside of Mindanao.
For producers from Luzon and the Visayas who have products that they would like to sell to consumers in Mindanao, the MinDA Tienda Portal will also assist.
One product which is in great demand in Mindanao is the Sibuyas of Luzon, Mindoro and Iloilo.
In the return trip of the delivery trucks, fruits like Pomelo, Durian and Mangosteen could be loaded and delivered to Eastern Visayas, Bicol and Northern Luzon.
By opening up this link, we are taking one step closer to the vision of establishing a food supply positioning system where a region with products in excess of its requirements would have a market in another area in the country where these products are in short supply.
An efficient Food Supply Positioning System is the key to achieving Food Sovereignty which in turn will unshackle us from our dependence on imported food supplies.
I know that this idea has been scoffed at many times and I was even ridiculed but believe me, the Philippines could be food sufficient if only our government will invest big in basic infrastructures like irrigation systems because there is no agriculture without water.
But you and me believing in this is not quite enough because the critical people that must be convinced are our economic and budget planners.
If only they could give the food production programs the same budget they give to 4Ps, our farmers and fishermen could produce more.
When that happens, we will finally achieve the long-dreamed food sufficiency.
