Mindanao Power Corporation

Secretary Luwalhati Antonino, Chairperson of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), and Romeo Montenegro, director of MinDA's office of Investment Promotions and Public Affairs lobby for the creation of the Mindanao Power Corporation (MINPOCOR) during the Joint Committee Meeting of the Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization and the Committee on Energy held Wednesday at the Batasang Pambansa. The proposed MINPOCOR is envisioned to manage and operate the Agus and Pulangi Hydroelectric Power Complexes, considered as the jewels of Mindanao's power sector that can provide reliable, sustainable, and cheap power in the island-region. The proposal, contained in three different House Bills authored respectively by Rep. Celso L. Lobregat, Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez with Rep. Maximo B. Rodriguez and Rep. Edgardo Masongsong, has gained widespread and cross-sectoral support in Mindanao with consultations and recommendations coming from the academe, electric cooperatives, consumer groups, and business chambers.
